Welcome L'Afrique Festival

Established in November 2003, L’Afrique Festival is dedicated to the promotion of African culture and of racial tolerance and understanding through the arts and creative expression.

We aim to :

  • Showcase and celebrate the Arts and Culture of Africa and the African Diaspora and promote a better understanding of Africa by promoting high-quality events.

  • Promote African culture and arts in order to reinforce positive images and challenge negative stereotypes.

  • Foster an environment of awareness, respect, inclusion and acceptance.

We believe that the promotion of different cultures leads to better understanding between people.

Manoute Seri, who founded the Festival in 2003 said:

‘I’m proud that 7 years on L’Afrique is still innovating by bringing world class African performers to the North East of England, encouraging discussion of important issues and showing how much African and Black culture can offer the North East. We hope that once again we will bring communities together to listen to music, dance, talk, reflect and most important of all – to have a good time!’
